Configuring the CMIC Interactively

You must have the Server Management administrative and Server Management REST passwords to complete this procedure.
  1. From the Azure portal, note IP information as follows:
    • For the CMIC VM, the public IP address of each
    • For MPP Teradata Database VMs, the private IP address of each database node
    • For single-node Teradata Database VMs, the private IP address of each database node
    • For the Teradata Viewpoint VM and other managed VMs such as Teradata Data Mover and Teradata Ecosystem Manager, the private IP address of each VM
    • SiteID [Base, Advance, and Enterprise tier users only] is the Teradata site ID to be used when connecting to Teradata for support. See Site IDs.
  2. Verify ports on the Teradata Database VM, Viewpoint VM, and all VMs to which Server Management is connecting are open to the private IP address of the Server Management node.
At a minimum, ports 5180-5181 and 5190-5191 should be open on the Teradata Database and all application VMs. For port information, see Network Security Groups and Ports.
  3. From the SSH client console, connect to the VM by logging on to the Server Management VM using the same authentication type you chose when you deployed the VM.
    Authentication type Action
SSH public key Enter the following:
    # ssh -i ssh-private-key.pem azureuser@VM-public-IP-address or VM-public-DNS-address
    where:
    • The ssh-private-key is the private key file (.pem) specified when you deployed the VM.
    • The azureuser is the user name specified when you deployed the VM.
    • The VM-public-IP-address or VM-public-DNS-address is the DNS host name or public IP address of the Server Management VM.
    Password Enter the following:
    # ssh azureuser@VM-public-IP-address or VM-public-DNS-address
    Password: password
    where:
    • The azureuser is the user name specified when you deployed the VM.
    • The VM-public-IP-address or VM-public-DNS-address is the DNS host name or public IP address of the VM.
    • The password is the password specified when you deployed the VM.
  4. Run the configuration utility.
    # sudo /opt/teradata/cmic/bin/cmic-cloud-config
  5. When prompted, enter IP address information for each database node, separating multiple values with a space:
    • For MPP Teradata Database systems, enter the private IP address of each database node, enclosed in brackets:
      Teradata DBS systems > [private-DBS-IP1 private-DBS-IP2]
    • For single-node Teradata Database systems, enter the private IP address of each database node, without brackets:
      Teradata DBS systems > private-DBS-IP1 private-DBS-IP2
  6. When prompted, enter the private IP address of the Viewpoint VM.
    Teradata Viewpoint IP > private-VP-IP
  7. When prompted, do one of the following:
    • Enter the private IP addresses of all the managed VMs such as Teradata Data Mover and Teradata Ecosystem Manager, separating the IP addresses with a space.
    • Press Enter if you do not have any managed VMs to add.
The first time you do this, the Teradata Database and Viewpoint private IP addresses are pre-populated.
    All Managed instances > private-DBS-IP private-VP-IP private-DM-IP private-Eco-IP
  8. When prompted, enter the site ID to be used when connecting to Teradata.
    SiteID > AZRTDBnnnnnnnnn
For more information, see Site IDs.
  9. If there is no configured Server Management administrator password, the utility prompts you to enter one.
    ServerManagement admin password > Password
The password must be between 6-32 alphanumeric characters.
    The utility validates your entries.
  10. If there is no configured Server Management REST password, the utility prompts you to enter one.
    ServerManagement REST password > password
The password must be between 6-32 alphanumeric characters.
    The utility validates your entries.
  11. When prompted, enter yes to continue which finishes the updates to the CMIC configuration.
Proceed with CMIC configuration? (yes/no) > yes
After completing this procedure, you can configure the Server Management portlet on the Viewpoint server. See Configuring Alerts for Server Management. Base, Advanced, and Enterprise tier users, see also Configuring ServiceConnect for Server Management.
